In August 2008, we had a peace and reconciliation project in Eldoret which had the following components: Education- the children who had dropped out of school as a result of displacement by the post election violence and other related causes were brought together (176 in number) thought together for three weeks and then returned to school, with the help of the municipal education office. The children were allowed in school although most of them did not have uniforms. the second component was the women and youth empowerment, where we brought together women and youth of different ethnic backgrounds and facilitated the to form women and youth groups, conducted training workshops and assisted them to start income generating projects. one such group is the Amani Kasarani Women group, which by this time have started poultry keeping project, just by contributing 20/= a week. the third one was sports . we organized tournaments for youths and women where different games were held giving people to interact and reduce the tension that had earlier on existed. the teams were also involved in environmental conservation, where over 2000 trees were planted in Langas police station, the Door church, Langas dispensary and Kapkanuiyo Primary school. we are still following up on these components of the peace project and visits regularly, eg whenever the children have problem in school, or the women group need our assistance. more tournaments are scheduled for December 2009.  detailed report can be found in the earth chatter website.
